Previously he pursued a career as a financial professional at Blue Chips in Europe:

• as an equity fund manager at Gartmore Investment Management, heading up their investments and short positions in the commercial and industrial sector stocks located in the Pacific & emerging markets;

• as a divisional finance manager at Sanofi Aventis, the global pharmaceutical giant;

• as a board chair / audit committee chair of Waberer’s, Europe’s leading FTL transport company and listed on the main board of a Central European exchange;

• as a management consultant at Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC).

More recently he took four years out to buy and operate a biofuel plant in Spain.

He also writes and delivers various finance-related courses for corporate directors, fund managers and bankers around the world. He links practice with theory, joining the dots between the various financial disciplines. He has been engaged by leading bespoke training firms in London for many years, and is a regular lecturer of Corporate Finance at Corvinus University, Hungary's leading economics university. He acts as a coach / mentor of CEOs and occasional technical assessor of finance managers.

A chartered financial analyst (“CFA”), an English chartered accountant (“FCA”), and a Masters degree holder in Mathematics from Cambridge University (“MA Cantab”), he resides in the centre of Europe (Budapest). He is fluent in English (mother tongue) and in Hungarian, he speaks French and knows some basic Arabic

He has had recent successes in managing a smooth transition from local tax-driven accounting to IFRS /US GAAP monthly reporting and forecasting in complex environments, such as Turkey, India and Hong Kong.

Proven experience on M&A deals in healthcare, including sale of Euromedic International (enterprise value: €800 million) to Merrill Lynch in 2008 and sale of IDC to Fresenius in 2011 (EV: €485 million).

Also, co-founder and owner of a pumice-stone based innovation company, developing soil-improvement products for agriculture, as an alternative to chemical-based fertilizers

He started his career in New York in 1987 working for a large single-family office (Brennikmeijer/AMCENA) with a net worth of $6 billion. He later served another private family (De Benedetti Family/CERUS), where he helped build a Vienna-based Central European fund which grew to $300MM AUM.

Mr. Frater relocated to Asia where he successfully raised his first China-focused fund, TigerPack Capital Limited, in 1996. He later founded a PE-advisory firm (Tea House Partners Limited) advising several European and US private equity investors on deal origination and market entry strategies for China. He worked closely at the time advising JP Morgan Chase (One Equity Partners), on its direct investment strategy for the region.

Mr. Frater later led the leveraged buy-out of Crown Holding’s global cosmetic packaging business, later becoming Chairman and the largest single shareholder.

Mr. Frater holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and presently resides in Vienna, Austria with his wife and four children.
